Welcome to the NYC Affiliate of the American Woman's Society of CPAs website! As President of the NYC Affiliate, I wanted to introduce myself and tell you a bit about our affiliate. I am a CPA in the state of New York and an accountant at a hedge fund in Manhattan. Through my involvement with the AWSCPA, I have had the honor of getting to know many intelligent and influential women members. I am privileged to work with our extremely diverse Board of Directors who represent many professional backgrounds including public and private accounting in various industries. These women serve each year to support our affiliates mission each year and I am very lucky to work with each of them. I would especially like to welcome each of the new women CPA’s who are serving on the board for the upcoming year - I look forward to working with you.

The NY Affiliate has accomplished a lot during the past year. We hosted several fun events for our members including a healthy mind and body seminar and a social styles breakfast. However, I am very proud of the fundraising efforts made by our affiliate this past year. We raised nearly $20,000 for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and for Hurricane Sandy relief for Long Beach, NY - a nearby town devastated by the storm. I am very proud of all of our members hard work to make these events successful and thankful to each person who supported us - your contributions, time and effort made an impact in our community.

The Affiliate’s largest event of the year was the 27th Annual Dinner held at 3 West Club on July 10th, 2013. The Annual Dinner began with a cocktail reception followed by a three course dinner where we announced our scholarship winner, Michelle Ciesielska, and initiated the 2013-2014 Board. Over 140 people were in attendance, representing over 20 companies from various industries and the program featured Ms. Carolyn Buck Luce as the Keynote Speaker.

Being involved in the AWSCPA allows members to enhance relationships, develop executive skills and build a strong network of professional resources. Membership with the AWSCPA also invites the woman CPA into a close group of friends – that care about each other, support each other and celebrate each others’ accomplishments. In an effort to grow professionally, we continue to partner with Zoologic Learning Solutions to provide our members with discounted CPE credits and our job bank committee supports our members by sharing new new job opportunities.

Thank you for visiting our website. I hope that you return to it often to look at our upcoming events calendar, job postings and scholarship opportunities, as well as to read stories about our members and view pictures from past events. Please contact me anytime if you are interested in becoming more involved or if you have any feedback.

I encourage you to be an active member in the AWSCPA NYC Affiliate - an organization which has enable me to grow into a stronger leader and woman. I hope to see you at one of our future events!

AWSCPA-NYC continues to promote and support women in Accounting by providing visibility and recognition for the organization and its members through a positive presence; creating an awareness of the obstacles that hinder women in maximizing their potential; providing resources, training and support for balanced personal and professional development of its members; providing opportunities for leadership, participation, networking and mentoring.
