AWSCPA of Georgia to host a program recognizing Dr. Deborah H. Turner for over 30-years of leadership, accomplishments, and contributions to the accounting profession.
The Georgia Affiliate of the American Woman’s Society of Certified Public Accountants announces an evening of celebration & inspiration on January 7, 2016. The event, Celebrating You: Legacies, Leaders & Luminaries Celebration Dinner, will focus on the 2016 Legacies, Leaders & Luminaries Honoree, Deborah H. Turner, CPA, MPA, Ph.D.
This Evening of Celebration & Inspiration will feature a reception, dinner and program honoring Dr. Turner and includes scholarship awards to rising stars in accounting. The event will be held at the Georgia Tech Hotel & Conference Center.
Dr. Turner is one of Atlanta’s great women: a leader in accounting, business and education. She is currently the John and Wendi Wells Associate Professor for Teaching Excellence & Associate Professor of Accounting at the Scheller College of Business, Georgia Institute of Technology.
Her vast contributions to the field of Accounting include articles and books; the development of innovative college courses, including a Bridge to Business which is a joint program between Agnes Scott College and Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business and Best Practices in Teaching, a program initiative for second-year Ph.D. students. Dr. Turner is a past president of the AWSCPA of Georgia and the recipient of the AWSCPA Educator of the Year and the AWSCPA Literary Award. She says, I have always enjoyed teaching and I love getting to know the students. My goal is to make sure that what I am teaching really meets their needs in a way that fits into their lives and improves their future. She is an example of a true leader and shining star in accounting.
The AWSCPA welcomes the public to this event and is proud to offer sponsorship opportunities at various levels. Proceeds raised will be used to fund scholarships and initiatives supporting the continuing education and career development of female accounting students.
