Awards Lunch
Join ASWA and AWSCPA for a joint awards lunch that will celebrate the winners of the ASWA Educational Foundation’s “Foundation Awards” and AWSCPA’s “National Awards.” Each year, the ASWA Educational Foundation (The Foundation) recognizes the "best in market" companies whose commitment to work/life balance and individuals whose influence on others in the profession have placed them in the enviable position of earning the prestigious Foundation Award. This year, The Foundation is also recognizing an individual or group that has supported their community by teaching a Financial Literacy program through our new Financial Literacy Award. The AWSCPA recognizes the individual achievements of its members and non-members with the following awards: the Woman CPA of the Year Award, Educator of the Year Award, Public Service Award and the Woman of Courage Award.
Music City – “Music Calls Us Home”
Many movies have been made about Nashville. Enough books about Music City have been written to fill a bookcase. And, of course, scores of songs are dedicated to the city of music. But, while music is the lifeblood of Nashville, visitors will also find here a city of culture and history, of haute cuisine, of pro sports, outstanding academics, natural beauty and pure Southern charm. Nashville is a place where the past and the future peacefully coexist and build, one on the other, to create a destination that appeals to the interests of every visitor. This city is alive. You can feel its pulse when you walk down its sidewalks. And, fortunately, you can also hear it almost anywhere you go.
Dining
Whether it's down-home Southern cookin' or sophisticated Continental fare that you're looking for, you're in luck here. Nashville caters to all tastes with a restaurant scene that parallels the diversity found in its music styles. Ru San's sushi and Japanese food, Sitar's Indian dishes and Restaurant Zola's contemporary cuisine are just some examples of this variety. The staples of the city, however, are the meat-and-threes. Famous among these is the Loveless Café, which serves Southern classics such as fried chicken, meatloaf and chicken and dumplings, reminding you why it's called "comfort food."
Night Life
Live music dominates Nashville's nightlife scene. Bars, clubs and performance venues across the city boast well-known bands, local favorites and rising stars almost every night of the week. More family-oriented spots are found in the Music Valley area, where the Grand Ole Opry is located. More up-beat and livelier, the District features renovated warehouses and old bars, such as popular Wildhorse Saloon and Graham Central Station, which offer top-quality live music and dancing. Further down 2nd Avenue, Fuel showcases rock music to counter the heavy country-western feel of downtown. The Elliston Place Rock Block caters to more alternative tastes with six of the loudest nightclubs in the city, including the legendary Exit/In. Honky-tonks like Tootsie's Orchid Lounge and Robert's are sprinkled throughout the city, and don't miss the famous Bluebird Café, a quieter place where up-and-coming songwriters (Garth Brooks and Kathy Mattea got their starts here!) try out their work. Trendy bars and dance clubs like Virago and Bound'ry provide great drinks, attractive crowds and welcome escapes from the work week. Nashville also prides itself on having alternatives to the live music and dancing scenes like sports bars, coffeehouses, and dinner theaters.
Shopping
If you long for clothes, souvenirs or even home furnishings, spend some time at the city’s many malls and eclectic shopping districts. Recently featured in Lucky Magazine, Nashville offers both national chains and unique, independent shops with items to fit any budget. Suggested shops include:
-
Gift/Sundry Shop - 0 miles from hotel
- Opry Mills Mall – 4 miles from hotel
- Factory Stores of America Outlets Mall - 5 miles from hotel
- Green Hills Mall - 8 miles from hotel
- Hickory Hollow Mall - 10 miles from hotel
- Rivergate Mall - 15 miles from hotel
Attractions
Nashville is one of the nation’s true creative centers. Music isn’t just played here – it’s created here. A trip to Nashville would not be complete without learning more about the singing legends, talented musicians and hard-working industry professionals that take an idea from concept to chart climber. Be sure to visit the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum, Ryman Auditorium, Grand Ole Opry Museum, Music City Walk of Fame, Historic RCA Studio B and the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum to take in the behind-the-scenes views of Nashville’s most famous industry.
While you're here, explore The Hermitage - home of President Andrew Jackson or the Adventure Science Center, the historic 2nd Avenue Entertainment District, Printer's Alley, Frist Center for the Visual Arts, The Coliseum, and the Gaylord Entertainment Center. Plus, the challenging Hermitage Golf Club and Nashville Shores Recreation and Water Park are also close by.
